Black Market is the sixth Weather Report studio album, recorded between December 1975 and January 1976 at Devonshire Sound Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter. It is the first with Jaco Pastorius, who plays fretless bass on two tracks, and Alphonso Johnson plays on the rest. Zawinul plays acoustic and electric piano with two ARP 2600 synthesisers and an Oberheim polyphonic synthesiser, Shorter plays saxophones and the Lyricon, and Alex Acuña and Don Alias add percussion. It draws heavily on African influences, and "Cannon Ball" honours Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, who had employed Zawinul in the 1960s.
