Black One is the Sunn O))) album where the drone metal duo of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson turned towards black metal and brought in guests from that scene. Malefic of Xasthur sings on "Báthory Erzsébet", a tribute to Quorthon of Bathory and to the countess whose name inspired the band, and Wrest of Leviathan, Oren Ambarchi and John Wiese also appear. "Cursed Realms (Of the Winterdemons)" is a cover of Immortal, and "Orthodox Caveman" is based on live material from the White tour. Recorded in May 2005 and released on Southern Lord, some copies came with a live bonus disc, Solstitium Fulminate.
