John Congleton produced, engineered and mixed this in May and June 2009 at The Track Studio in Plano and Elmwood Studio in Dallas, Texas. It is the first Baroness album with guitarist Pete Adams and the first produced by Congleton. John Dyer Baizley sings and plays rhythm guitar and piano, and painted the cover. Progressive metal and sludge metal sit together, and a Japanese edition adds a cover of the Descendents' Bikeage.
