Colored Sands is a concept album about Tibet, inspired by a child's drawing of a Tibetan sand mandala. Its first four songs cover the country's philosophy, landscape and culture, "The Battle of Chamdo" is an instrumental marking the Chinese invasion of 1950, and the last four deal with the invasion, protest and flight. Luc Lemay wrote "The Battle of Chamdo" on piano and recorded it with a string quintet, and Colin Marston plays bass and co-produced. It was the first Gorguts album since 2001, after Lemay revived the band that had disbanded in 2005.
