Morphine recorded their second album at Fort Apache and Hi-N-Dry in Cambridge, Massachusetts, produced by Paul Q. Kolderie and Mark Sandman. Sandman plays a two-string slide bass and a tritar, with Dana Colley on baritone and tenor saxophone. Original drummer Jerome Deupree left during recording for health reasons and Billy Conway replaced him. The result is a low, sparse alternative rock and jazz-rock sound, and Dawna and Buena later appeared in The Sopranos.
