Dirt is the Alice in Chains album recorded between April and July 1992 at studios in Burbank, Seattle and Los Angeles, produced by Dave Jerden and the band. Jerden built the guitar tone by blending three amplifiers: a Bogner Fish preamp for low end, a Bogner Ecstasy for mids and a Rockman for highs. The songs deal with depression, anger, war, death and heroin addiction, and Layne Staley described it as semi-conceptual. Tom Araya of Slayer guests on the 43-second "Iron Gland", and Columbia released it on 29 September 1992.
