• Scores: Noise 4, Unease 4, Complexity 5 (each 1 to 5)
• Genre: Metal, Rock, Avant-garde metal, Art rock
• Mood: schizophrenic, cinematic, chaotic
• Sound: genre collage, sudden stylistic jumps, operatic vocals

Disco Volante jumps between styles within single songs, mixing death metal, jazz, Arabic music, musique concrète, easy listening, klezmer and tango. "Desert Search for Techno Allah" uses Arabic music, "Violenza Domestica" tango and "Phlegmatics" twelve-tone serialism, while "The Bends" is a ten-section instrumental suite about a diver with decompression sickness. Lyrics are sometimes in other languages or made of nonsense words, and the CD carries two unlisted hidden tracks. It is often considered Mr. Bungle's most experimental album.
