Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version is three long tracks of slow, heavily distorted guitar riffs with almost no percussion, apart from cymbal crashes on "Like Gold and Faceted". Earth recorded it in August 1992 at Avast! Recording in Seattle, and because the tape allowed only about 30 minutes a take the band spliced and faded sections together. Dylan Carlson's riffs repeat far more slowly than typical heavy metal, and he has cited Slayer, King Crimson and La Monte Young as influences. It is described as highly influential in the development of drone metal.
