Faust
- Zone: Twilight (level 3 of 5)
- Genre: Rock, Krautrock, Noise rock
- Mood: cold, disorienting, anarchic
- Sound: tape splicing, sound collage, motorik rhythms, extended songs
Faust's 1971 self-titled debut album is a landmark of avant-garde music. Faust radically deconstructed the rules of rock through physical tape-splicing, sonic dissonance and anarchic sound collages. Polydor funded the debut, mistakenly hoping they would be "the German Beatles". Faust's aggressive rejection of traditional melodies and hypnotic motorik rhythms ultimately laid the conceptual and physical blueprint for Krautrock, post-punk, industrial music and modern sampling culture.
