Human is a technical death metal album that Death recorded in May 1991 at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, produced by Scott Burns and Chuck Schuldiner. It is the only Death album with Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, who came from Cynic, and the first with Steve Di Giorgio on bass. Odd time signatures, complex rhythms and shred-style solos draw on progressive rock, jazz and jazz fusion, and "Cosmic Sea" is an instrumental that showcases Di Giorgio's bass. The liner notes pay tribute to the Atheist bassist Roger Patterson, who died in a car accident in February 1991.
