In the Land of Grey and Pink is a Canterbury scene album that Caravan recorded between September 1970 and January 1971 at Decca Studios and AIR Studios in London. Side two is "Nine Feet Underground", a 22-minute suite of eight linked sections that was recorded in five parts and edited together by the producer David Hitchcock and an engineer. Dave Sinclair plays most of the solos on fuzztone organ or piano, with Jimmy Hastings adding flute and saxophone. The songs on side one stay closer to pop, from the folk-tinged opening of "Winter Wine" to the title track, which includes Richard Sinclair blowing bubbles.
