Ulver recorded their second album in summer and autumn 1995 at Endless Lydstudio in Oslo, the second part of their Black Metal Trilogie, though it contains no black metal. Classical guitars, cello, flutes and choral chamber chants sit over subtle orchestral textures, sung in Norwegian. On some songs Garm's vocals are heavily overdubbed to create a choir-like effect, and many were built in the studio from a basic riff and click track with guitars layered on top. It expands on the quiet, folk-influenced acoustic side of the band's debut, Bergtatt.
