October Rust
- Scores: Noise 2, Unease 2, Complexity 2 (each 1 to 5)
- Genre: Metal, Gothic metal
- Mood: dreamy, mournful, yearning
- Sound: slow tempos, deep baritone vocals, lush keyboards, doom riffs, long songs, psychedelic textures
Peter Steele and Josh Silver produced this follow-up, aiming for what Steele called pop-goth. It has more ballads and less of the band's doom metal weight, with Silver's keyboards, synthesisers and programming alongside a drum machine and Johnny Kelly's percussion, his first album with the band. It opens with a joke intro imitating leads plugged wrongly into an amplifier, and uses abrupt endings and segues. It includes a cover of Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl.
