Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd · 1975

• Scores: Noise 1, Unease 1, Complexity 1 (each 1 to 5)
• Genre: Rock, Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Rock
• Mood: wistful, spacious, melancholic
• Sound: long suites, slide guitar, synthesizer washes, slow tempos

Pink Floyd recorded this between January and July 1975 at EMI Studios in London, producing it themselves. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a nine-part tribute to Syd Barrett, who visited the studio while it was being mixed. Its opening includes wet fingers circling wine glasses, multi-tracked into chords, from the abandoned Household Objects project. The opening bars of the title track were recorded from Gilmour's car radio as he turned the dial, and Roy Harper sings lead on Have a Cigar.
