Recorded between 2000 and 2002 at Tarbox Road Studios with Dave Fridmann co-producing, this album pushes the Flaming Lips further towards electronics while keeping acoustic guitars at the centre. Rhythms borrow from hip hop and Top 40 pop, and the story of a girl battling pink robots runs through the first four tracks. The title character was inspired by Yoshimi P-We of Boredoms and OOIOO. Coyne has said it was not intended as a concept album.
